Yesterday I went to a lecture by Anne Fadiman, the author of The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down - a book I'd highly recommend! She spoke on cross-cultural "humility" in health care. It was especially interesting to me since I work with many Latino, Hmong, and Somali patients at the county hospital here in Minneapolis...and also as I'm preparing to be a nurse in a culture that is not my own...

"Also, [she] liked the Hmong. Loved them, I should say. That was something that she had in common with everyone who had ever worked successfully with Hmong patients..." (page 265)

What a great lecture, wasn't it?! Thanks for going with us. Let's go to more so we can pretend we're students again :)
