I just received this email from the daughter of Pastor Chuy who runs El Refugio (the home for homeless elderly where I'll be serving once I go to Tijuana in January). It was sent late last night. PLEASE PRAY!
"There was a fire today at El Refugio, only a couple of rooms were burn down, praise the Lord for protecting the rest of the refuge. All 134 seniors have been evacuated and have been placed in a recreation center where they will be spending the night until it is safe to return to El Refugio.
We believe the cause of the fire was a circuit shortage. Please pray that he [Pastor Chuy] may not be fined by the city. Stand with us in prayer for God's provision to fix all electrical wiring and to rebuild these rooms as soon as possible so that the seniors may come back to their home and for food throughout these days away from El Refugio.
If you wish to help, let me know. Also please pray for my father [Pastor Chuy] for strength."
If you'd like to donate directly to
El Refugio during this time of crisis, you can do so by sending a check (include a note saying your donation is for
"El Refugio") to: Love in Action Partners, PO Box 16258, San Diego CA 92176.

So I came across your blog as I was trying to find information about the fire. . .El Refugio is also very near and dear to my heart. The highschool group from my church here ib Californis goes down to Tijuana over spring break on a mission trip and El Refugio (or Refuge as we call it) is one of the places that we minister at. I was reading about what you will be doing there and think that you will be a much needed blessing to them. Good luck with the rest of your preparations and may God bless you on your journey!
In Him,
Kristen
