update on El Refugio fire

Here's an email that I received yesterday evening about the situation at El Refugio since the fire last Friday:

"Many of you have asked for an update regarding El Refugio. All 134 seniors were relocated an hour away from El Refugio, the women are in a women's rehabilitation center and the men are in a church. This is the only place big enough we could find in such a short notice.

The estimate cost to rebuild the rooms which was burned is $4,500. We also need to rewire the rest of the rooms, even though these were not touched by the flames, we are unsure of the cost of the re-wiring yet. We also need fire extinguishers in each room as well as smoke detectors, All of this must be completed before the elderly can return to their home.

The list might be overwhelming for you but if you wish to help please let us know.
Here are the ways you can help:
- Financially
- Provide your time/skills (we needs electricians, construction workers, cooks, volunteers)
- Pray that others may step up and help
- Beds after the rooms are completed

Also please pray for [the pastor the runs El Refugio] - for physical strength while he commutes every day to the temporally location and for peace in the midst of the chaos."

Thank you for all of your prayers, encouragement, and support - both for El Refugio and for me as I prepare to go to Tijuana in 2 months. It's hard for me to be far away during this difficult time, but I know that I'll be there soon.
